Anton Gericke was born in Johannesburg in 1947. He mainly went to school in one of the coastal cities in South Africa, namely Port Elizabeth. He painted his first oil painting at the age of six and was immediately recognized as a talented young person. Apart of his interest in music, he also studied pharmacy in Potchefstroom. He attended numerous art coursed at Technicon PE and with other popular South African artists. He was particularly influenced by Errol Boyley, Wessel Marais, Isabel le Roux, Pieter Millard and Dale Elliot but has developed his own distinctive style of painting.
